Scouting

I'm a believer in the leadership and character building benefits that Boy Scouts, now called Scouts BSA, provides our youth. I was a Cub Scout, earning the Arrow of Light and a Boy Scout, earning the Eagle Scout rank. I learned a lot over my scouting career, including many valuable leadership experiences. I definitely learned a lot about herding cats and managing peers by influence serving in many leadership roles, including the Senior Patrol Leader of the Troop and Crew Chief at Philmont.

I've tried to give back to scouting. In college, I was President of Alpha Phi Omega, a service fraternity based based on the values of scouting and supportive of scouting everywhere. Later, I was a Cub Scout leader for 5 years, earning the Norm Hummell Award of Leadership Excellence, then the Committee Chair of Troop 3, which has been operating continuously in Austin since 1915, and Committee Chair of Troop 2, our sister troop we founded in 2021. I worked hard to provide a solid scouting program and experience, improve the tech, processes, and documentation and generally leave the Troop better than when I started.
